While Sandro Tonali has admitted to and will be serving a 10-month ban for gambling during his time playing for Milan, but new investigations by the FA are underway concerning whether the player was also involved with a betting breach during his time at Newcastle.

Tonali, 23, has been banned globally from playing for 10 months, with an additional eight months of rehabilitation as agreed upon by a plea deal taken by Tonali and approved by the Federal Prosecutor's Office.

The ban initially only applied to him through the power of the Italian Football Association however, after a request from the FIGC to FIFA, this ban was expanded to include all global play.

Since the beginning of the investigation last month, Tonali has admitted to having a gambling addiction and is participating in therapy.

The additional investigation has been opened by the FA who will look into Tonali’s tenure with Newcastle, online holdem which began after his transfer from AC Milan this summer.

There are no further details given about the validity of these allegations, however it is likely that there will be continuing developments as the FA continues its investigation.

In a press conference today, Newcastle’s Sporting Director Dan Ashworth said: “All I can say to you is that we have fully cooperated with all of the associations and organisations concerned and the FA are, of course, fully aware of what’s going on.

“All I can deal with is the present and the facts. I can’t look into the future and, as I’ve said, we’ve cooperated fully with all of the organisations.”
